"The outlaw" fills a 6pack, Baker's cake crumbles on Piggly Wiggly night.by Matt Vaade
"The Outlaw" Kenny Richards is off to fast start in 2015 and Saturday Night he pushed his win streak to six. Brian Vinney Jr gave it a valient effort leading most of the race with Richards right in his tire tracks until the closing laps, Richards climbed down the hill off of four and used a well timed slidejob on the other end to seal the top spot and extend his streak. Richards was followed across the line by "Topside" Tommy Moore, Vinney, Aaron Streblow and Justin Brown. Brown and Nick Schumacher took home heat wins.
In NAPA Auto Parts Street Stock action there's another streak forming. Mark Baker dominated the race running out to over a straightaway lead with very little challenges dominating the show, but the battle for 2nd ended up being the race for the win. "The Wuanakee Warrior" Brandon Riedner, Scott"Chico"Riedner and Chad Hummelmeier were locked in like train cars up on the cushion with little room for error. At the line it was Baker by a mile, B Riedner, Chico, Hummelmeier and Doug Engelking. However in post race tech Baker was dq'd and stripped of the win for the second straight time, Hummelmeier and Engelking were also dq'd. Brandon Riedner was awarded the win, Chico second, Cody Potter, Alex Crapser, and Russ Davison round out the top 5. Baker, Crapser and Engelking took heat wins.
In the Ultimate racecars.com Sport Modified main Nick Schultz survived the clock and multiple challenges from "The Wuanakee Warrior" to claim top honors. Schultz squeezed through the middle early on to get the lead, Riedner managed to pull off several pass attempts on Schultz only to have every one called back due to the dreaded yellow flag. With 3 laps remaining the race was called official for exceeding the time clock, giving Schultz a much needed shot in the arm and his first win of the season. Riedner, "Superman" Jeff Schmuhl, Brandon Schmitt and Adam Peschek rounded out the top five. Keith Schmitt, Peschek and Schmuhl claimed heat wins.
Choice Insurance Legends were up next, and it looked like an episode of 'Shop till you drop'. The caution bug hit several drivers resulting in lots of torn up sheet metal. "Flyin" Brian Peterson picked his way through the wreckage the safest putting his #0 out front using a daring three wide move off of turn two. Ryan Mech came from deep in the pack to challenge Peterson but the Young Lion ran out of laps to catch the Master in his bid for career win #1. Peterson was followed across the line by Mech, Cody Apfelbeck, Mike Mueller, and Tim Vargo. Heat winners were Jason Moser, Peterson and Chris Flick.
The final event of the evening held all the fireworks until the final couple laps. Noah "Sheppy" Schepp started on the front row and looked to have the bacon in the shopping cart, when lapped traffic caused him to have to check up allowing "Taco Dave" Dave Schoenberger and Dustin Smits to close the gap. Smits first had a heated exchange with Matt "The madman" Rechek for the third spot, then he went to work on Schoenberger and Schepp. Smits squeezed his way passed Schoenberger and set his sights on Shepp. With two to go Schepp and Smits seperated themselves for the final battle. Schepp held steadfast on the cushion forcing Smits to try and work inside. Smits sized him up and then engaged a slamming slide job off of turn four to claim his second straight Weld Specialty Supply victory. Smits was followed by Schepp, Rechek, Schoenberger, and Kevin Tillema. Schepp, Andrew Araco and Nick Firari all won heats.
